Why Hawaii Businesses' Digital Marketing Is Behind The Times
…and how you can take advantage of it.
I received a lot of hate from Hawaii digital marketers for saying this. If you have a business, you might begin to hate me too if you’re doing digital marketing for your company. I hate it myself because it’s the truth. I’ll tell you why.
I remember back before the existence of the internet, Hawaii was always behind the times. Once the latest fashion trends, music, fads, hottest toys, gadgets, tech, etc. hit the islands, it was already weeks or even months old in the mainland.
Thinking back, it makes sense why we were behind the times. The means of communication, media, and shipping speeds weren’t as fast and accessible back then. So, once products, magazines, and media reached here, the states were already well into the trends and sometimes already looking into the “next best thing.”
But we’re not in those times anymore. We have the internet where communication and access to the news and media are instantaneous. We can access information as quickly as anyone else in the world. We have FedEx where we can receive or ship anything overnight. So, it boggles me why local business’ digital marketing is behind the times.
Let me give you an example.
Just recently, our SEO expert, Michael Castelo, helped a plumbing company increase their leads by dominating the online market for keywords relevant to “plumbing services in Hawaii.” The efforts resulted in more customers for the plumbing company, and their business has grown (and is still growing) within in a matter of months.
Even though the plumbing industry on Oahu is saturated, he found it very surprising that the digital marketing space for plumbing services was relatively easy to dominate and take market share from.
That led him to research other sectors and markets. To his surprise, he concluded that businesses in Hawaii aren’t marketing their companies right. And if they’ve hired a digital marketing agency to take care of their online marketing; either the marketing agencies aren’t up-to-date with the latest strategies or flat out don’t know what they’re doing.
Delving even deeper, he found that it’s not just SEO (search engine optimization) and search engine marketing (SEM), it’s with other digital marketing vehicles as well such as social media marketing.
“No one knows what they’re doing,” Michael exclaimed.
Don’t get us wrong, some guys and gals are doing it right, but they’re typically smaller agencies and independent contractors that can’t scale their services as quickly.
If you take a look at the densely populated areas in the mainland that’s comparable to Honolulu’s, the online competition is fierce. Here in Hawaii, not so. In fact, it should be even more competitive because we’re on an island.
What that tells us is digital marketing is behind the times in Hawaii. And if you own a business here, your online space, or as Michael likes to put it “online real estate,” may be open to being dominated.
Check out our digital marketing agency SunexSolutions.com to inquire about teaming up with Michael and the team to dominate your business’ online market before your competitor beats you to it. Once a company gets ahead in their online space it’ll be challenging to catch up, especially if they know what they’re doing.
The digital marketing strategies are dated here in Hawaii.
Hate it or love it, it’s the facts.
